The Hike

The weather has warmed up and Sean and I are trying to spend as much time as possible in the sun. Yesterday we went for a mid-morning bike ride. It was really nice. This isn't to toot my own horn or anything, but I'm getting a lot better at mountain biking. I think it's probably because I'm in better shape than I have been in a while. I'm going faster on the up- and down-hill portions. Anyways, it was beautiful up there (we were up Provo Canyon, just past Vivian Park). I'm really glad that we decided to go.

Later that afternoon we debated on what to do. We knew we wanted to spend a lot of time outside due to the fantastic weather, but we weren't sure what. Eventually we decided on going on a hike to the top of Squaw peak, a hike that we've wanted to do for a while. Now, there's a lookout that is associated with Squaw peak--that's not what we hiked to, but instead to the actually Squaw peak (it looks like pride rock from the Lion King).

We knew that there was a trail coming out of Rock Canyon, but it's really long, so we decided to go with our gut and find another trial that we were pretty sure existed. Well, there was a trial, but it ended after 20 minutes or so. We then followed game trials down this really steep part of the mountain. It was covered with shale rock, so it was slow moving, but we eventually made it to the actual trail again. We weren't far from the top by now... and it was beautiful. It was such an amazing view of Utah Valley--we loved it. We stayed up there for quite a while, taking pictures and just enjoying the beauty of it all.

We didn't want to hike up the super steep section again, so we decided to go back a different way than we went up. We knew it would be longer, but we didn't think that it would be that much longer. Well, it was WAY longer. Granted, it was easier, but definitely not worth it in hindsight. It took at least double the time, if not more. It was easier at least. The one redeeming factor was that we walked through this absolutely beautiful meadow that we wouldn't have otherwise. It was a good adventure, that's for sure. A good way of starting the summer of many hikes.

It's funny to me that as the weather warms up, you and Sean keep looking for ways to do stuff outside, while Jordan and I hide from the heat in our apartment... :) Neither of us were meant for weather above 75 degrees, I won't lie. That being said, I'm incredibly jealous of your lovely hikes/bike rides. Sounds like tons of fun!

I still think you should have made out at the top. I completely support your out-dorsy-ness. Just for the record, I really only enjoy hikes when there's some water to swim in at the top!

I agree that hiking to lakes/rivers/waterfalls is much better...but I enjoy it all!
